The terms

Megapixel usually use in digital camera terminology. Mega mean thousand, and pixel mean picture elemen, so megapixel can described as thousand of picture element.

The Size

Nowdays, digital camera megapixel technology changes rapidly. 2 years ago, digital camera with 3 megapixel picture technology is the highest picture technology in the market. If you want to choose camera megapixel, the range is between 1 megapixel ( usually for phone camera ) until 15 megapixel ( SLR Camera ).

Recommendation

Before choose the size of digital camera megapixel, we suggest you to review what will you do with your digital camera. It means if you are a professional photographer you have to choose the highest megapixel camera because it will give you better picture quality and ready for editing. But if you just want to use camera for your family documentation,  digital camera 8 megapixel is recommended for you. The higher digital camera megapixel, the file size need higher memory card. So choose base on your purpose on buying digital camera.
